It's an adventure unlike any other - South Africa, a fast land of unimaginable beauty and diversity of experiences, set to take your breath away.


Day 1: Melbourne to Perth



Today Cardwells will take you to Melbourne Airport where you will board a flight to Perth on Virgin Airways. Once you have landed in Perth you will transit through to the International terminal where you will fly out on award winning airlines, South African Airways, as we make our way to Johannesburg. 


Day 2: Johannesburg



Upon arrival in Johannesburg go through security formalities and then be transferred to your hotel. Drop off your luggage and then begin your Soweto township tour, visit the Hector Pieterson museum where you will be enriched in history of the events leading up to and during the anti-Afrikaans Soweto Uprising. Then visit Regina Mundi Church one of the oldest churches which also has a fascinating story to tell about the major role it played in the fight for freedom. We couldn't come all the way to South Africa without seeing the iconic Nelson Mandela's house - drive by before heading out for lunch to a local Soweto eatery (Sakhumzis Restaurant), where you will get close to Soweto Culture, meeting the people and trying local foods. After lunch be taken back to your hotel then rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Day 3: Karongwe Game Reserve



Today we have an exciting day, we drive to Karongwe Game reserve where we have two game drives before settling into our private lodge (Shiduli), set against the backdrop of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountain Range lays Shiduli Private Game Lodge. Embodied with grace and elegance, but yet oozing unsurpassed warmth and hospitality. Guests can step into the relaxed atmosphere of the lodge with its lush indigenous garden dappled in shade, lounges with internet facilities, bar, enrmous sparkling pool and thatched dining areas punctuated with original South African Art. Crossing over 9000 hectares of supreme and diverse vegetation, with its three perennial rivers and huge Jackelberry and Leadwood trees, Shiduli is home to the Big 5, as well as a wealth of other smaller creatures and bird species.

Day 4: Karongwe Game Reserve



Spend another day at the beautiful Shiduli Lodge you will have the opportunity to go out for another two game drives to explore this magnificent reserve, and spot the big five wild animals in their natural environment. 



Day 5: Scenic Route to Johannesburg



 Today we say goodbye to Shiduli and have a scenic drive back to Johannesburg while taking in some of the most beautiful land icons in the world. You will see the breath taking Blyde river Canyon, Bourkes Luck Potholes, and Gods Window, a forest area of breathtaking scenery and magnificent views of canyons, rock formations and waterfalls. Lunch will be enroute; once we arrive back in Johannesburg we will enjoy a banquet at the Emperors Palace restaurant.

Day 6: Johannesburg - Port Elizabeth - Knysna 

Today we transfer to OR Tambo Airport where we have a short domestic flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival at Port Elizabeth we drive to Knysna which is a coastal town in the Garden route (The name comes from the green and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous lagoons and lakes dotted along the coast). We will travel via the stunning Tsitsikamma National Park and explore the River Mouth conservation levy before settling into our lush Garden cottage.

Day 7: Knysna 


Today we embark on the Featherbed Eco tour (Featherbed is a privately-owned, registered Nature Reserve and a South African Heritage Site. It is a pristine piece of paradise situated on the Western Head of Knysna and is accessible by ferry only). Once returning from the tour the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to explore the town of Knysna. Tonight we dine at Knysna Waterfront restaurant.


Day 8: Oudtshoorn


This morning as we travel to Oudtshoorn, known as the Ostrich capital of the world, we have a fascinating Safari of an Ostrich farm. Be amazed by these creatures as you tour around then have a delightful Ostrich lunch. As we travel on to the Cango Valley, our tour is underneath-The Cango Caves. Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well known Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest dripstone cave, with its vast halls and towering formations of magnificent rock, you will be amazed as this is the only show cave in Africa.  

Tonights dinner will be served at your Hotel.

Day 9: Cape Town


Today we make our way to the capital of South Africa (Cape Town) via Hermanus, a town built along the beautiful shores and cliffs of Walker Bay. Hermanus is most famous for its whale watching; enjoy spending some land based time watching these massive animals burst out of the sea. Tonight we will enjoy a relaxing dinner at the

V & A Water front restaurant.

Day 10: Cape Town 


Today we tour along the Peninsula drive by Clifton, Camps Bay & Llandudno all with seeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and hoe to some of the rich and famous. Once we reach Hout Bay we will cruise around Seal Island, which is a small island that gets its name from being home to over 60,000 Cape fur seals. The island is also home to many sea birds as well as a hub for Great White Sharks. 


Day 11: Cape Town  


Today we enjoy a full day city tour of Cape Town taking in a visit to the iconic Table Mountain, where you get spectacular views of the City, its Waterfront, Camps Bay and other amazing scenery, & Robben Island, a world heritage site famous for its rich history. Drive by Parliament house, City Hall & Slave Lodge. Visit Malay Quarter & Bo Kaap- which is a fascinating museum of 19th century, colourful houses cobbled streets  before having an Island Tour of Robben where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. We are in for a treat for tonights Dinner - experience a show of South African Drumming while enjoying a delicious meal at the Golden Restaurant.



Day 12: Cape Town 


Today we indulge in a Full day Winelands tour; visit the famous estates Paarl, Franschoek & Stellenbosch tours will also include wine tastings of some of the world's finest wines as well as a gourmet lunch. Look out over the view of lush vineyards, old homesteads and spectacular mountain scenery. Dinner tonight will be served at the V & A Waterfront restaurant.


Day 13: Cape Town - Johannesburg


Today you will have some free time for any last minute shopping or sightseeing before it is time to say good bye to our South African adventure and make our way home, fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg and connect to your outbound flight back to Perth.

On arrival in Perth you will connect with your domestic flight back to Melbourne where you will be met by a Cardwells driver that will return you back to your local town.
