Day 1 - Saturday 30th Dec.17 Hamilton - Mount Gambier                            

Welcome aboard as we discover the secrets of South East South Australia.  Today we travel to Elmore where we enjoy morning tea.  We travel through Maryborough, Avoca and Ararat and continue around the Southern End of the Grampians National Park to Dunkeld and Hamilton, the 'Wool Capital of the World'.  We continue through the Western District, crossing the South Australian border as we make our way to Mount Gambier, known as the Blue Lake City.  The town is situated on the slopes of an extinct volcano, and the area is rich farming, horticultural and dairy country.  We settle in for our Three Night Stay at the Comfort Inn Silver Birch, Mount Gambier.

Day 2 - Sunday 31st Discover Mount Gambier 

A relaxing day as we discover the secrets of Mount Gambier, with its unique Volcanic Lakes, Mysterious Caves and Sink Holes. Enjoy free time to shop, before we enjoy an extensive tour of Mt Gambier including a drive around the famous Blue Lake with a tour of the Aquifer, the Cave Garden and the Umpherston Sink Hole. This afternoon we visit the Lady Nelson Discovery Centre, a great way to learn of the history and intrigue of the geography and cultural aspects of the region. Then we visit one of Australia's prettiest caves, the Tantanoola Cave nestled inside an ancient maritime cliff which is easily accessible. Then its back to our motel for dinner and freshen up before we travel to nearby Vansittart Park and join in the new year celebrations.                                      

Day 3 - Monday 1st Jan 2018 Penola - Millicent      


This morning we travel to Penola where we enjoy a town tour of Penola's heritage with some fine examples of slab and hewn cottages erected in the 1850's.  For the art and craft lovers, a chance to walk down Petticoat Lane where you will find some magnificent works just waiting to be discovered.  We visit the Woods Mary MacKillop School House and Mary McKillop Interpretive Centre that stands as a testament of their determination and vision. We continue our journey as we make our way to the historic sea side town of Robe were we enjoy our lunch break. This afternoon we travel South-East along the coast road to Millicent, where we visit the Living History Musuem, full of wonderful displays.  We return to our motel with time to freshen up before dinner. 

Day 4 - Tuesday 2nd Portland - Warrnambool      


This morning we farewell Mt Gambier and cross the Victorian border before making our way to Portland.  We enjoy a scenic tour on the fully restored Melbourne Cable Tram, travel the 7.4kms along the Foreshore, before lunch at the Portland.  This afternoon we travel along Portland Bay to Codrington, where we visit the Wind Farm for an informative insight into this new technology. We continue to Warrnambool, where we settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Olde Maritime Motor Inn.


Day 5 - Wednesday 3rd Ballarat - Home    


This morning after a hearty breakfast we travel though Mortlake and Skipton, stopping for morning tea en-route.  We make our way to Ballarat for our lunch break and continue home after a very interesting and relaxing Mount Gambier discovery tour.
