Cairns to Brisbane Queensland Classic

DAY 1 Wednesday 21st August 19  FLY MELBOURNE, CAIRNS (D)

This morning we make our way to Tullamarine for our flight to Cairns.  On arrival in Cairns we are met by our coach and crew and settle in for the Next Five Nights at the lovely Oasis Resort, right in the heart of Cairns. This modern capital of the tropical north has boomed with the influx of visitors.  The cosmopolitan Esplanade traces the bay foreshore and blends the city life of cafes and shopping with the natural attractions of the Coral Sea.                 



A relaxing start today before we travel via the Skyrail to Kuranda where we explore the variety shops and famous Kuranda Markets Then we make our way to the picturesque Kuranda Railway Station for an exciting ride on one of the worlds most spectacular rail journeys via Barron Falls and Gorge as we enjoy magnificent views over Trinity Bay to Cairns.   Return to our Resort.



An exciting day awaits as we travel north along the coast, enjoying spectacular views of the Coral Sea and beaches, to the Daintree River. Here we enjoy a cruise and a boardwalk taking us through the lush rainforest, maybe see a crocodile or two. Return via the charming town of Port Douglas. Travel along the avenue of Oil Palms, with time to explore this popular seaside resort before returning to Cairns.


DAY 4 Saturday 24th ATHERTON TABLELAND (B,D)                                                                

A relaxing start today as we enjoy a drive to the picturesque Atherton Tableland.  The area is rich in agricultural industries, including dairy and sugar. Travel to Mareeba where we visit Coffee Works, enjoy a talk and taste and a chance to visit the Collections of Coffee inventions, design and antiques. Continue to Atherton and see the famous Curtain Fig Tree and the Milla Milla Falls, dont forget your camera.  Then we make our way back to Cairns at the end of a relaxing day of sightseeing, with time to freshen up before Dinner.   



Today is at leisure, enjoy the friendly relaxed pace of Cairns. You may wish to cruise to the Outer Barrier Reef or Green Island. Relax and catch up for dinner at the resort this evening. 


DAY 6 Monday 26th MISSION BEACH (B,D)

This morning we farewell Cairns, and head south through Innisfail to Mourilyn, where we visit the Australian Sugar Museum and enjoy a video on the sugar industry. We visit Paronella Park an impressive heritage garden set in 5 hectares of rainforest. Then its on to MISSION BEACH, a quiet tropical area where Cassowaries can often be seen. We spend the Next Two Nights at the delightful Comfort Resort Mission Beach.



Enjoy a sleep in this morning or take a stroll through the gardens and rainforest that surrounds our resort.  Around mid-morning we cruise to Dunk Island, famous for its rainforests, dense jungles and fine beaches.  See the famous Blue Ulysses Butterfly or visit the grave of E.J. Banfield who lived on the island for 25 years. Following lunch we cruise around the exclusive Bedarra Island and the family group of islands before returning to mainland.



DAY 8 Wednesday 28th TOWNSVILLE, AIRLIE BEACH (B,D)     

Today we enjoy spectacular views of the Hinchinbrook Island, with its mountain backdrop, as we travel through the Cardwell Ranges to Ingham.  Continue south to Townsville, an expanding modern city where we visit the Museum of Tropical Queensland. Then we continue further south to visit the famous Rock Shop at Home Hill. Continue on to the lovely Airlie Beach Whitsundays latest escape and  explore the shops before we settle in for the Next Two Nights at the Coralsea Resort, Airlie Beach.


DAY 9 Thursday 29th HAMILTON ISLAND (B,L,D)

Another relaxing day as we relax this morning, with free time for shopping. Stretching through the sapphire blue waters of the Queensland coastline for over 2000kms, the Great Barrier Reef is the most extensive coral reef system in the world. This is the best place from which to discover this incredible natural formation. Discover the popular holiday island of Hamilton, a bus tour and lunch is included. Return to Airlie Beach this afternoon after another relaxing day on the Whitsundays Coast.




A leisurely start today before we travel to Mackay.  See the man made harbour and Bulk Sugar Terminal, one of the largest in the world. We visit the Regional Botanical Gardens to discover some of the plants of the region. Continue on to ROCKHAMPTON known as the beef capital of Australia

OVERNIGHT: Cattle City Motor Inn.  

Day 11 Saturday 31st Rockhampton, Hervey Bay (B,D)

We continue over the Tropic of Capricorn on to Bundaberg, situated on the banks of the Burnett River. Visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery (closed in shoes are esstential) for an informative tour. We enjoy a town tour before we head to Hervey Bay for our stay at the Beach Motel at Torquay for the next three nights. 


A real highlight today as we enjoy a Whale Watching Cruise, which includes morning tea. Dont forget you cameras as we see Hervey Bays famous Humpback Whales at play. Hervey Bay is recognised as the best area in the world to see the Humpback Whales during their southern migration from the Barrier Reef breeding grounds to the Antarctic. The most energetic of all the great Whales, they put on incredible displays waving and slapping the surface with their huge tails and flippers and perform barrel rolls. This afternoon is at leisure to explore Hervey Bay, enjoy a strioll or do some shopping or just take time to relax before dinner. 


An exciting day as we discover Fraser Islands unique and precious Natural Environments that has attained its world Heritage Listing. After Breakfast and our transfer to Fraser Island we head up the coast for a full day beach trip. See the Cathedral Coloured Sand Cliffs and Maheno Shipwreck. Enjoy a picnic lunch amongst the palms and bird life of Fraser Island. We also visit the beautiful Eli Creek, the largest of the fresh water streams flowing into the ocean. Discover the Valley of the Giants, unique lakes and Coloured Sands. Learn more about the Aboriginal Heritage of the island, the lifestyle and source of bush tucker. We return to Hervey Bay this afternoon after enjoying our Fraser Island tour, with time to freshen up before dinner. 

Day 14 Tuesday 3rd HERVEY BAY, BRISBANE (B,D)

This morning we travel through Gympie and Noosa to Caloundra then onto the City Brisbane, we have free time to explore. After lunch we travel to the Wheel of Brisbane. You will be inspired by the breathtaking views across the iconic Brisbane River. This must see attraction provides something for everyone, young or old, tourist or local and is a must do for anyone in Brisbane for an exciting ride and different view of Brisbane the its off to the Mantra Midtown Motel for our overnight stay. 

Day 15 Wednesday 4th HOME (B)

After breakfast we depart and visit the Mt Cootv Tha Lookout and the Botanical Gardens before we head to the airport for our flight home after a wonderful and relaxing time exploring the east coast Cairns to Brisbane.
