Cruise the Murray, Darling, Murumbidgee, Wakool and Edwards River
This morning we travel to Echuca for morning tea. We continue along the Murray Valley Highway to Swan Hill for lunch (own cost) at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club where we enjoy lunch and maybe the chance to play the pokies. We then travel to Robinvale where we stop for afternoon tea.
We make our way to Wentworth for our two nights stay at the Wentworth Grande Motel.
Board Spirit II after breakfast and cruise to the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers, then travel upstream along the Darling past Tapio Cutting and Station to Avoca Station for a light lunch. The homestead is one of only a few stone dwellings in the Shire and reflects the prosperity and importance of the early squatter dynasties. Re boarding after lunch cruise further upstream past Bellevue Station until the river becomes narrower and shallower where we turn back to Wentworth. Wentworth Shire is a region of great diversity and it offers you the opportunity to experience an introduction to Outback Australia. When you have such great river and land forces working towards one rare and special landscape you know its an experience like no other.
A leisurely start to the day as we see the Perry Sand Hills then travel to Mildura and explore all that it has to offer. We visit the Information Centre and start with a town tour, taking in all the highlights. We visit the magnificent home of Milduras founder, William Chaffey. Rio Vista is beautifully restored and is filled with delightful items of memorabilia, original furnishings and fittings. Further down the road we see a reconstruction of the Old Homestead and Woolshed of the first sheep station established in Mildura in 1850. We then travel to Balranald for our two night stay.
After breakfast we join the boat and cruise the Murrumbidgee River downstream to the Balranald Weir, tour the Yanga Woolshed then cruise through Balranald and on upstream to the bridge before returning to Balranald for dinner, bed and breakfast. The former paddle steamer port of Balranald in Country NSW offers reminders of its pioneering past.
This morning after breakfast we travel to Kyalite to board Spirit II and cruise the Wakool River Upstream to its junction with the Edward River. Edward River, or Kyalite River, an anabranch of the Murray River and part of the Murray Darling basin, is located in the western Riverina region of south western New South Wales. Entering the Edward, we cruise upstream as far as navigable before cruising back to Kyalite and transferring by coach to Tooleybuc for dinner, bed and breakfast.
