Friday 30th August '19 LOXTON (D)

All aboard for a truly unique experience as we discover Lake Eyre in all its glory.  Today we travel along the Murray Valley Highway to Echuca for our first morning tea break. Highway to Echuca for our first morning tea break.  Continue on past the chain of lakes and onto Swan Hill for lunch.  Then we make our way through the Mallee Region to Region to Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, maybe see the delicate Mallee Wildflowers Wildflowers as we continue through Red Cliffs and along the Sturt Highway. Highway.  We enjoy afternoon tea before crossing the South Australian border as we make our way to crossing the South Australian border as we make our way to Loxton for our Overnight stay stay at the Loxton Community Hotel Motel.


Saturday 31st LOXTON - PETERBOROUGH (B,D)

A relaxing start this morning as we make our way to Berri. Then we travel past Lake Bonnie and follow the Murray River to Morgan.   Then on to the historic mining town of Burra for our lunch break. This afternoon we enjoy a guided tour of Burra and learn about the Dugout Houses, that were made in the creek banks, and the Paxton Square Cottages before we continue on to Peterborough, a town that has 3 different rail gauges.  We visit Steamtown and relive Peterborough’s railway heritage.  We settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Roundhouse Motor Inn.

 

Sunday 1st Sept '19 FLINDERS RANGES - WILPENA POUND (B,D)

This morning our journey takes us North to the township of Hawker where we visit the Wilpena Panorama at Jeff Morgan’s Gallery.  We continue to the Flinders Ranges National Park before arriving at Wilpena Pound, an immense elevated basin about 50 square kilometres encircled by sheer cliffs. Time to explore Wilpena Pound and surrounds by walking trail or enjoy a short scenic flight (at own expense) over Wilpena Pound and surrounds.  This afternoon we make our way to Blinman and through the beautiful Parachilna Gorge as we travel North through Leigh Creek to the remote township of Marree.  We settle in for the next Two Nights at the Maree Hotel.  Facilities maybe a little less elaborate in these remote areas.


Monday 2nd DISCOVER LAKE EYRE - SCENIC FLIGHT (B,D)

An exciting day awaits and one that will certainly be a highlight of the tour as your “Once in a Lifetime Experience” begins, as the first group, enjoy the spectacular scenic flight over Lake Eyre in all its glory.  As a result of recent heavy rains the normally dry lake is still filling with water and attracting a myriad of birds and other wildlife.  See the shimmering waters as we take in the huge expanse of this isolated and rarely seen National Park, which sits 15 metres below sea level and covers 12 million hectares.   We also see the famous Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks and the much talked about “Marree Man”.  Time to enjoy lunch and explore the little town of Marree. This afternoon we explore the township and local area and return to the Hotel in time to freshen up for dinner.


Tuesday 3rd PORT AUGUSTA - CLARE VALLEY (B,D)

This morning after a hearty breakfast, we make our way south and see the coal mines of Leigh Creek and pass the rugged beauty of the Flinders Ranges. We stop for morning tea en-route.  Then we travel south through Quorn and on through the famous Pichi Richi Pass, the original route of the Great Southern Railway to Port Augusta where we visit the Waldata Outback Centre and experience the life of outback explorers.  We continue on to Clare Valley for our Overnight Stay at the Comfort Inn Clare Central.


Wednesday 4th BAROSSA VALLEY - MURRAY BRIDGE (B,D)

This morning we travel through beautiful Clare and the Barossa Valley, Australia’s most famous wine producing area, enjoy the charming old towns and spectacular views of vineyards spreading across the undulating hills.  This afternoon we have a chance to sample some of the local wines before we make our way Murray Bridge for our Overnight Stay at Adelaide Road Motel


Thursday 5th MURRAY BRIDGE - HOME (B)

We farewell our hosts and cross the River Murray as we make our way to Pinaroo for Morning Tea. We travel the Mallee Highway to Ouyen and onto Swan Hill for our lunch break then we farewell our new found friends and are homeward bound.
