Welcome aboard to our tour to Norfolk Island! Today we have a leisurely trip down to Melbourne Airport for our short domestic flight to Sydney. Upon arriving in Sydney, we are transferred to our hotel the Mercure Sydney Airport for an overnight stay.
This morning we make our way to the airport for our flight to Norfolk Island with Air New Zealand. As you begin to fly into Norfolk Island you will notice a dramatic change in scenery from the city. Fly over Norfolk’s rolling hills and quaint country landscape. When you arrive in Norfolk go through airport formalities and be transferred to your accommodation which will be the Castaway Hotel for the next 7 nights. Castaway Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Burnt Pine with sweeping valley and garden views, the Castaway is just a short stroll to local shops and cafes. Tonight, dine in before setting in for the evening.
This morning you will have an Island orientation tour a must for every visitor. Visit historic Kingston, Cascade, Longridge & much more. See and hear the famous convict buildings, beautiful beaches & golf course, the renowned Melanesia Chapel, our Government, our laws & lifestyle. Enjoy views from a scenic spot on this full commentary conducted tour. Rest for a delicious morning tea in the garden of an historic island home built by Fletcher Quintal- descendant of ‘Bounty’ mutineers Fletcher Christian & Matthew Quintal. This afternoon is yours to enjoy, explore some of the places Norfolk has to offer at your leisure. Tonight, laugh, cheer and sing along with the talented descendants of the Bounty Mutineers of fun you will never forget! Enjoy a delicious, two course feast that is fit for a mutineer.
Take your choice of a stroll through Hundred Acres Reserve or for the more energetic, a leisurely 3.5km walk through scenic Mt. Bates to Captain Cook Monument. At the end of the walks we meet on the clifftop for a delicious breakfast barbecue. If you prefer not to rise early and bush walk, but would like to have breakfast on the cliff top, join walkers at Anson Bay & share in the delicious barbecue breakfast. Following on visit to the Cyclorama which is a 360- degree painting that has running sound, it certainly takes you back in time. This afternoon is at your leisure, for dinner tonight enjoy a two-course meal at Hilli’s which is a quaint restaurant with some of the island’s best food.
As you wake up to another day in paradise. Two Norfolk Islanders, Donald & John, will share their knowledge of Norfolk’s unique marine life. Once you have ‘walked the plank’ with these ‘mutineer descendants’ it takes 60 seconds (yes one minute) to be at the reef. View beautiful coral gardens & tropical fish inside the calm crystal waters of Norfolk’s lagoon. Donald & John provide full & interesting commentary on this environmental tour. With these two you should be prepared for a touch of Norfolk humour. Tonight after dinner at Castaway, join Pine Tree Tours for the evening as they head off into the Wilderness. The setting is 10 acres of magical Norfolk pines & bushland lit up like an enchanted forest. Meander along (or ride in the ‘moon buggy’) a gentle winding path with Matt Bigg- a descendant of the Bounty mutineers, as he recites poems and lights up the diorama.
Today join John and his Island staff- all direct descendants of the Bounty Mutineers; on an exciting 3- hour tour to points of Norfolk, accessible only by 4WD. This back of beyond tour takes you through private properties and the national park featuring spectacular scenery, native flora & bird life. It also includes delicious homemade cakes with tea & coffee at a beautiful Island home. Don’t expect a rough race through the scrub. Drivers are conscientious and knowledgeable. All vehicles are comfortable modern 4WD’s. Great for all ages. Dinner tonight will be at your accommodation – Castaway.
Have a leisurely morning today. This afternoon experience the culture of the forebears. From the mutineer ancestors and their Tahitian wives came the arts of wood craft, weaving, cooking & our Norfolk Language. On this tour see a woodturning demonstration using Norfolk timber, visit an Island home where you will learn about Norfolk cooking. An Island weaving demonstration and a presentation on the Norfolk language will follow the afternoon tea break. Tonight, enjoy a 3- course meal progressing to different Norfolk Island family homes. You will join a group of other Norfolk Island visitors and be taken to carefully selected Island homes where you will hear Norfolk stories from your dinner hosts. The Progressive Dinner is a fun night and a great way to meet the local people.
Today travel to Anson Bay to visit a small hobby farm, which has been instrumental in improving the local livestock industry. Close by see a demonstration at Norfolk’s major pottery and browse at the Cottage Pottery Shop. After a delicious morning tea at a scenic location, visit one of the Island’s largest Banyan Trees. Exclusive to Pinetree Tours- visit ‘Sweeties’ & learn how we make chocolate on Norfolk. Dinner tonight enjoy a feast of Island dishes, salads, homemade bread & fresh fired fish, followed by Island desserts & tea or coffee. Enjoy some local entertainment on Norfolk’s, Puppy Point. Following nightfall at Kingston brings a different mood to the Convict Settlement. The stillness and the stars are there just as they were before mankind arrived in 1788. However, with the dramatic use of real-life sounds, theatrical lighting & costumed actors, the stillness is broken as Pinetree Tours takes you through the horrifying decades of Norfolk Island’s convict era.
After enjoying breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Sydney once arrived in Sydney you will then connect to your domestic flight back to Melbourne. On arrival Cardwells will pick up and take you back to your original location.
