Then we travel to Ivanhoe and on to Wilcannia, a town with a difference, situated on the Darling River.  After a short stop we continue on to the Pioneering Opal Town of White Cliffs and our Overnight Stay at the unique Underground Dugout Motel.

(Rooms are unique spacious underground rooms, underground rooms do not have ensuite facilities – there are a limited number of rooms above ground or dugouts opening outside.)

DAY 3 – Sunday 9th          DISCOVER WHITE CLIFFS – BROKEN HILL                    (B,L,D)

After a home cooked breakfast and witnessing the best sunrise imaginable, we enjoy a guided tour of this area known as White Cliffs.  The location, terrain, weather, wildlife and especially the people are unique, friendly and on a first name basis only.  No surnames are required around the Oldest Commercial Opal Fields of Australia!   We take in the sights of this unique area before returning to our motel for a delicious BBQ Lunch.  We continue our outback adventure as we make our way to Wilcannia and then along the Barrier Highway to Broken Hill.  We relax for the next Two Nights at the Hill Top Motel Broken Hill.

DAY 4 – Monday  10th                     EXPLORE BROKEN HILL – SILVERTON                (B,D)

Today we enjoy a full day to explore Broken Hill.  We discover Broken Hill, with an informative guided tour, enjoy free time and lunch. DAY 5 – Tuesday 11th                 BROKEN HILL - DARETON                                            (B,D)

A leisurely start today as we explore more that Broken Hill has to offer, we make our way out to Silverton, an outback ghost town made famous by the film industry.  We visit the Old Silverton Gaol before returning to Broken Hill to visit the Royal Flying Doctors and the School of the Air for an insight into how distance affects the community (subject to School Timetables and availability).  This afternoon we travel to Wentworth for our afternoon tea break at the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers.   We settle in for the next two nights at the Coomealla Club Dareton

Day 6 – Wednesday 12th                Discover Mungo National Park                                    (B,D)

A real adventure today as we travel back 60,000 years to Mungo National Park, a series of dry lakes now, but still a haven for native flora and fauna. A guide will travel to Mungo to explain the history of the park and ensure that all significant areas are visited.  We enjoy a picnic lunch in this truly unique location that is world acclaimed for the significant archaeological finds made during the 1960’s which rewrote the history books on the Pre European occupation of the Australian continent.  The focus on Mungo National Park is directly related to the intensity of the erosion on the sand lunettes, aptly named “The Walls of China”.  In fact almost all of the significant discoveries made throughout the entire region have resulted from natural wind erosion often accelerated but not necessarily initiated by post-European settlement.  We travel back to the motel for a true explorers rest.

DAY 7 – Thursday 13th               DARETON – SWAN HILL – HOME                                        (B)

After a delicious breakfast we continue on through the citrus orchards to Swan Hill for lunch.  We then make our way home after a relaxing tour and the experience of seeing the ever-changing landscapes of Outback NSW.
