TOUR HIGHLIGHTS * PIZZINI WINES * WINE SAMPLINGS * GOLD RUSH BALLOONING * BEECHWORTH HONEY
Day 1 - Friday 30th April ‘21 Pizzini Wines - Milawa (L,D)
Welcome aboard our tour to the King Valley and the High Country! We delight in a Devonshire Tea in the Benalla Park before travelling on to Pizzini Wines for lunch. Alfredo and Katrina Pizzini built Pizzini Wines based on their passions and their commitment to family and Pizzini’s Italian heritage. Their winemaking dream began in 1978 when they planted the first vines on the property, then in 1994 the first wine under the Pizzini label was produced. Following lunch we take a tour of this winery and enjoy wine samplings. Tonight we stay at the beautiful Lancemore Hotel, Milawa.
Day 2 - Saturday 1st May ‘21 Gold Rush Ballooning – Bright Autumn Festival - Beechworth (B, D)
It’s an early start this morning as we head to Gold Rush Ballooning. Take in the beautiful King Valley and surrounds in your balloon at dawn. From the vineyards and patchwork of fields the views expand to the King and Ovens Rivers, spectacular Mt Buffalo and High Country beyond. Get a real sense of the Milawa Gourmet region and the Prosecco Road from aloft and the enormous potential of the region to produce European wine varietals and gourmet produce. We celebrate your flight with a delicious Prosecco breakfast at Brown Brothers. Breakfast includes a glass of crisp Brown Brothers Prosecco, bacon and eggs, avocado and tomatoes, fresh bakery and cut fruit. Also a selection of King Valley’s local Salus sourdough and fruit loaf with accompaniments and your choice of tea, coffee or juice. Then it’s on to Bright where we enjoy the Annual Bright Autumn Festival. The Bright Autumn Festival is a celebration of the wonderful autumn colours and autumn produce of the valleys of Victoria’s Alpine High Country. Bright and the surrounding districts are blessed with the perfect climate for magnificent autumn colours. Tonight we stay at The Provenance, Beechworth.
Day 3 - Sunday 2nd Beechworth - Home (B, L, D)This morning you discover Beechworth on a walking tour. Beechworth stands as one of the best living examples of how our nation grew and prospered with over 30 buildings listed with National Trust. The best way to explore and learn about the areas rich in history is to join one of the Beechworth Guided Historic Walking Tours, where you can see many of these original buildings first hand and discover the stories behind the grand facades. We then visit Beechworth Honey which is Australia’s leading single-origin honey producer and a house name enjoyed wide. Supported by the family’s 130 years of knowledge of apiculture, Beechworth Honey remains an innovative company committed to the highest standards and to always producing the purest quality, 100% Australian honey. There’s time to look around shops in Beechworth – Browse through the sophisticated boutiques boasting luxury fabrics, designer labels, vintage jewellery, quality leather goods and contemporary homewares and edible gifts. After some retail therapy it’s time for a delicious lunch at the Moments & Memories Tea Room (or similar). This afternoon we visit the cascading Woolshed Falls which are a ten-minute drive north of Beechworth. An observation deck provides views to falls and the valley below, which is particularly spectacular after heavy rainfalls. We then begin our journey back home, stopping to admire the Goorambat Silo Complex. There are three painted silos, two short ones sitting back to back and one tall concrete one standing on its own. The three silos were painted in two stages one year apart. We then continue on home, after a memorable three-day getaway.
