Day 1: Mon 11th October MELBOURNE (D)
All
board! Today have an easy start to the day as we make our way down to the Best
Western Airport Motel and Convention Centre for our overnight stay. Sit back
and relax and get to know your fellow travellers.
Day 2: Tues 12th October LORD HOWE ISLAND – CRUISE (B, D)
After a
hearty breakfast, we will head into the airport and go through formalities to
fly out to Lord Howe Island via Sydney.
Welcome
to Lord Howe Island! Often described as the Garden of Eden you come to realise
very early on how true that statement is. This afternoon enjoy a round Island
cruise. This will allow you to relax and get into the holiday mode. See breath-taking views all around Lord Howe Island including the spectacular image
of Balls Pyramid creeping up in the distance and sheer mountain cliffs. During
part of the cruise you will approach the ‘Admiralty Islands’ which are home to
a large percentage of the Island’s bird population. Your accommodation for the
next five nights is the Somerest Apartments. Somerset is perfectly situated
between Neds Beach and the Lagoon, on a level area of Lord Howe Island,
allowing easy walking and biking to nearby shops, restaurants and the Visitor
Centre. Tonight, dinner will at the Bowling Club.
Day 3: Wed 13th October ISLAND TOUR- HISTORICAL FILMS (B, L, D)
After a
delicious breakfast at the Anchorage Restaurant. Experience a refreshing
introduction on what to do on Lord Howe, where to go and how to do it. Learn
everything about the island there is to know. The afternoon will be at your
leisure. This evening before dinner enjoy a showing of three short historical
films from the flying boat days, held at the community hall. Both Dinner and
Lunch today will be served at the Anchorage Restaurant.
Day 4: Thur 14th October ENVIRONMENTAL TOUR (B, L, D)
This
morning enjoy a tour that focuses on exploring the profuse coral seascape and
introduces you to some of the more unusual lagoon inhabitants such as the
endemic double-header wrasse, stingrays and turtles. This tour provides an optional
snorkelling experience at Erscott’s Hole or you can just relax on the boat and
view the stunning diversity of this exotic marine location. The rest of the
afternoon will be at your leisure. You make like to go off exploring on one the
beautiful bush walks. Dinner tonight will be at the Golf Club.
Day 5: Fri 15th October LITTLE ISLAND – MUSUM (B, L, D)
Today
enjoy some company with the locals. Walk the little Island track to view the
spectacular aerial courtship displays by the winter breeding providence petrel.
One of the world’s rarest birds, the providence petrel returns to the Island to
nest and can be ‘called’ out of the air, landing at your feet and even climbing
into your lap! Followed by lunch at the Golf Club. This evening before dinner
explore the local museum with Ian Hutton a Australian Botanist. Dinner will be
served at the Coral Café.
Day 6: Sat 16th
October NORTH BAY TURTLE &
NATURE TOUR (B, L, D)
This
morning go off on a adventure! View the large variety of fish, turtles,
stingrays and amazing corals of the world’s southern most barrier reef on our
glass bottom boat, ‘Adventure One’. While exploring North Bay you can climb up
Mt. Eliza, walk to the Old Gulch or Herring Pools, view the sea bird rookery
(seasonal), swim or just sit and laze the day away. Amazing snorkel opportunity
is provided through our optional snorkel of the wreck of the ‘Favourite’ which
ran aground here in 1965. Followed by lunch at the Coral Café. Dinner tonight
will be served at the Anchorage Restaurant.
Day 7: Sun 17th October LORD HOWE – HOME (B)
After breakfast we fare
well Lord Howe Island! After a very relaxing holiday. Travel via Sydney, once
you arrive back into Melbourne. Cardwell’s will take you back to your original
locations.
