Day 1– Monday 6th June ‘22 Cobar (D)
Welcome aboard our Queensland Deluxe Tour. Today we travel north into NSW, through the rich agricultural land of Griffith and make our way to Cobar, where we settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Cobar Motor Inn.
Day 2 –Tuesday 7th Cobar – Charleville (B,D)
After a hearty breakfast this morning we make our way to Cunnamulla and follow the Kidman Way to Bourke which is situated on the Darling River, which flows from Queensland until it reaches the Mighty Murray River at Wentworth. We make our way along the Mitchell Highway to Charleville - which proudly calls itself the 'Heart of the Mulga Country'. We enjoy our Overnight Stay here at Charleville Waltzing Matilda. After dinner we visit The Cosmos Centre and Observatory.
Day 3 –Wednesday 8th Charleville – Longreach (B,D)
This morning we discover Charleville with an interesting guided town tour. We continue north along the Landsborough Highway to Blackall. See the 'Old Petrified Tree Stump' and the main street lined with Bottle trees. After lunch we visit the Historic Woolscour and Hot Artesian Bore before continuing on to Barcaldine, where we see the 'Tree of Knowledge'. Then onto Longreach, the Hub of Queensland, where we relax for the next Two Nights, at the Jumbuck Hotel, Longreach.
Day 4 –Thursday 9th Qantas Museum-Stockmans Hall (B,D)
An exciting day awaits us as we discover the life and times of the outback with a visit to the QANTAS Founders Outback Museum, where we experience the newly opened $10 million Dollar Museum and tour the Boeing 747. This afternoon we visit the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame & Outback Heritage Centre; a tribute to the pioneers who struggled to develop our great outback. Here we enjoy the Stockman’s Experience Tour.
Day 5 – Friday 10th Longreach - Cloncurry (B,D)
Leaving Longreach we travel north through Winton and visit the ‘Dinosaur Museum’ for the Ultimate Dinosaur Tour. Then on through the remote areas of Queensland’s Channel Country, nature's own irrigation system in the small outback town of McKinlay at the Walkabout Creek Hotel. We also see the Hotel that was the setting of the film 'Crocodile Dundee'. Continue on to Cloncurry, where we settle in for the next 2 Nights at the Gidgee Motor Inn, Cloncurry.
Day 6 – Saturday 11th Mount Isa (B,L,D)
We travel to Mount Isa and experience a tour of the Hard Times Mine which offers a truly authentic modern mining experience. The visit takes visitors 25 metres underground to experience the realities of a miners working day. We have time to explore the info centre on completion and have lunch here. We then venture underground at Mount Isa Underground Hospital and discover how residents lived in fear of being bombed. With the advent of World War II and the bombing of the Darwin Hospital, precautions were taken to protect Mount Isa district hospital in the event of an air raid. We explore the town before we return to Cloncurry.
Day 7 - Sunday 12th Cloncurry Karumba (B,D)
This morning we visit the John Flynn Museum before travelling the path first ventured by Burke and Wills, to Karumba located on the Gulf of Carpentaria, renowned for its large prawn fishing fleet. We make our way to Karumba and enjoy a spectacular sunset cruise. Our Overnight Stay is at the Karumba Lodge Motel, Karumba.
Day 8- Monday 13th Gulflander – Undara (B,D)
We farewell Karumba and make our way to Normanton where we ride the Historic Gulflander Train before continuing onto Croydon, once a booming goldfield. Then it’s on through Georgetown to Mt. Surprise. Our Overnight Accommodation is at Undara Lava Lodge – Undara (unique accommodation).
Day 9 – Tuesday 14th Undara Lava Tubes (B,D)
A unique experience today as we visit the most spectacular geological feature of Australia - the 'Undara Lava Tubes'. Our Gulf Savannah Guide escorts us through the ancient Lava flow, explaining this rare phenomenon. A chance to walk inside these mysterious tunnels is truly an exhilarating experience. We make our way to the Atherton Tablelands where we visit the famous Curtain Fig Tree - a photographer’s delight. We continue onto Cairns and settle in for the next Two Nights at the lovely Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, right in the heart of Cairns. This evening we are joined by our 15 day Cairns & Great Barrier Reef passengers at Dinner.
Day 10 – Wednesday 15th Scenic Skyrail–Kuranda Train (B,D)
A relaxing start today before we travel via the Skyrail to Kuranda where we explore the variety shops and famous Kuranda Markets. Then we make our way to the picturesque Kuranda Railway Station for an exciting ride on one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys via Barron Falls and Gorge as we enjoy magnificent views over Trinity Bay to Cairns. Return to our Resort in time to freshen up for Dinner.
Day 11- Thursday 16th Cooktown (B,D)
An exciting day awaits as we head inland to Mareeba for our morning tea. We then join the Mulligan Highway and travel north through Mount Carbine and onto the Lakeland for our lunch. This afternoon we make our way into Cooktown for our Two Nights Stay at the River of Gold Motel, Cooktown.
Day 12 – Friday 17th Discovering Cooktown (B,D)
A relaxing start to the day as we soak up the relaxed atmosphere that Cooktown has to offer. We enjoy a town tour, before we make our way to the James Cook Museum where we learn about Captain James Cook and how in 1770 he beached the Endeavour here for repairs after running aground on the Great Barrier Reef. This afternoon we see the Historic Wharf and take in the Botanic Gardens, which are the second oldest botanic gardens in Queensland. Dinner tonight is at the Resort.
Day 13 – Saturday 18th Cooktown – Cairns (B,D)
This morning after an early breakfast we travel the Mulligan Highway back south to Mount Malloy and onto Mossman where we enjoy our lunch. This afternoon we make our way to the Daintree River. Here we enjoy a cruise through the lush rainforest, maybe see a crocodile or two. We visit the charming town of Port Douglas, travel along the avenue of Oil Palms before arriving in Cairns where we settle in at the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort for the next Two Nights.
Day 14 – Sunday 19th Cairns – Free Day (B,D)
Today is all about choices. Relax at the Resort, explore Cairns or take a cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef. Dinner tonight is at the Resort.
Day 15 – Monday 20th Mission Beach (B,D)
After breakfast we bid farewell to our Outback Queensland passengers and then farewell Cairns and head south through Innisfail to Mourilyan. It’s here where we visit the Australian Sugar Museum and watch a video on the sugar industry. At Paronella Park we enjoy a guided walk ‘Dream Continues’, then it’s on to Mission Beach, a quiet tropical area where cassowaries can often be seen. We settle in for our Overnight Stay at the delightful Mission Beach Resort.
Day 16 – Tuesday 21st Townsville – Airlie Beach (B,D)
Today we enjoy spectacular views of the Hinchinbrook Island, with its mountain backdrop, as we travel through the Cardwell Ranges to Ingham. Continue south to Townsville, an expanding modern city, here we visit the Museum of Tropical Queensland. We continue further south to visit the famous Rock Shop at Home Hill. Continue onto the lovely Airlie Beach ‘Whitsundays’ latest escape, explore the shops before we settle in for the next Two Nights at the Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach.
Day 17 –Wednesday 22nd Hamilton Island - Daydream Island (B,L,D)
Another relaxing day as we are picked up from our motel for our Two Island Cruise. Discover the popular holiday islands of Hamilton and Daydream Island, lunch is included. We return to Airlie Beach this afternoon after another relaxing day on the Whitsunday’s Coast.
Day 18 – Thursday 23rd Airlie Beach–Rockhampton (B,D)
A leisurely start today before we travel to Mackay where we see the man-made harbour and Bulk Sugar Terminal, one of the largest in the world. We continue on to Rockhampton, known as the beef capital of Australia. Overnight: Cattle City Motor Inn, Rockhampton.
Day 19 – Friday 24th Rockhampton–Bundaberg (B,D)
This morning we travel over the Tropic of Capricorn and then Continue on to Bundaberg, situated on the banks of the Burnett River. We visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery (closed in shoes are essential) and enjoy a visit through Bert Hinkler’s Cottage & Aviation Museum. Overnight: Sugar Country Motor Inn Bundaberg.
Day 20-Saturday 25th Bundaberg – Goondiwindi (B,D)
Today we leave the Queensland Coast travelling inland to historic Childers, then across to Kingaroy - the Peanut Capital. Here we view a video of the Peanut Industry before we travel through the centre of the rich Darling Downs, passing through Dalby. We settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Jolly Swagman Motor Inn, Goondiwindi, home of the famous Goondiwindi Grey, Gunsynd.
Day 21 – Sunday 26th Goondiwindi – Dubbo (B,D)
This morning we cross the border and travel down the Newell Highway to Moree for Morning Tea. We enjoy an early lunch at Narrabri. This afternoon we make our way to Coonabarabran before arriving in Dubbo for our last night together with time to reflect on the great times we’ve had. Our Overnight Stay is at Comfort Inn Blue Lagoon Dubbo.
Day 22 – Monday 27th Dubbo - Home (B)
On the last day of our holiday we travel to West Wyalong, then continue on through Narrandera and Finley, crossing the Victorian border at Tocumwal. We conclude our exciting Queensland Holiday as we return to our respective destinations.
