Day 1 – Tuesday 11th October ‘22 Lancemore
Werribee Mansion (L,D)
Cardwell’s Coach Travel
welcomes you aboard for a stunning getaway in Werribee. We stop enroute for
morning tea before arriving at the magnificent Lancemore Werribee Mansion. Lancemore Mansion Hotel
Werribee Park captures the very essence of boutique accommodation. A
magnificent 1870 historic mansion and 1923 Catholic Seminary surrounded by 10
acres of formal English gardens just 30 minutes from Melbourne CBD. Our
Heritage rooms were once home to students of St Joseph’s Seminary and have been
transformed in accordance with strict heritage guidelines to offer modern
amenities while retaining their rich tradition and period features. A property
that may bewilder the old seminarians but which pays homage to its past as a
peaceful retreat for escape and contemplation. We enjoy a sumptuous High Tea Lunch -
be treated to a lavish spread of sweet and savoury delicacies.
High tea is served in Joseph's Dining overlooking the gardens of Werribee
Gardens. We have the afternoon to explore this beautiful mansion and it’s
surrounds. Soak
up the richness of Werribee Park, an estate built on the wealth of an
Australian pastoral empire. Explore the heritage-listed Werribee Mansion, set
up a picnic in the beautiful formal gardens or see a kaleidoscope of colour
when the 5,000 roses bloom in the Victoria State Rose Garden. Experience the grandeur of the Werribee Mansion.
Explore the formal gardens and marvel at the expansive manicured landscape,
intricately designed grotto and ornamental lake. Once the working heart of the
Werribee Park estate, the remaining bluestone outbuildings of the farmyard
provide a stark contrast to the elaborate craftsmanship of the Chirnside
Mansion. Wander down to the heritage orchard and see the work the community and
Parks Victoria have put in to preserve and restore the fruit orchard originally
planted by the Chirnside family in the late 1800s. Tonight we stay at the Lancemore Werribee Mansion and enjoy our evening meal in
the dining room.
Day 2 – Wednesday 12th WERRIBEE ZOO - HOME (B,L)
Following breakfast in the Mansion we
depart and head to the Werribee Zoo. Werribee Open Range Zoo is part
of the Zoological Parks and Gardens Board or Zoos Victoria. It was originally agistment land to the
Melbourne Zoo. Visitors to the zoo can take a bus tour, which normally lasts
35–40 minutes, multiple times a day, and takes up to 140 people per bus. The
tour includes animals such as the hippo as well as animals of the grassland, such as zebra,
waterbuck, giraffe, ostrich and rhinoceros, as well as the camel and
the oryx. The zoo has a simulated African village, with
educational and entertaining features, including a mock scenario of an African
ranger and his adventures tracking lions, and an interactive soundscape walk
with simulated lion sounds surrounding the walker. There are two independent
trails that visitors may follow: the Pula Reserve Walking Trail which focuses
on African animals, including lions, vervet monkeys, cheetahs and meerkats, and the Australian
Journey Walk, which focuses on Australian animals, like the koala, emu and
kangaroo as well as the cassowary. There is a Learning Centre, which
teaches more about the history and geography of animals in their environments. We
enjoy our lunch at The Views Function Bar & Grill! Views are in their name, and that’s exactly what you’ll get when you
visit them. After a relaxing lunch we board the coach to head back home, after
an enjoyable Werribee tour.
