The Ghan and Uluru tour weaves together the cultural and natural highlights of Darwin, Kakadu National Park, and the iconic Ghan train experience, culminating in an exploration of Uluru and the flavors of Adelaide.

This tour offers a captivating blend of adventure, cultural immersion, and luxury travel, showcasing the vast diversity and beauty of Australia’s Northern Territory and South Australia.


Day 1 -Tue 16 July 2024 - Darwin 

Welcome to cosmopolitan Darwin for a two-night stay.

Day 2 - Wed 17 Jul 2024 - Darwin

Freechoice: Cruise on the Adelaide River, home to the ‘jumping crocodiles’ or take a day trip to Litchfield National Park to soak up its lush green scenery and dramatic waterfalls. Alternatively, enjoy a sunset cruise on Darwin Harbour; take the hop-on-hop-off bus around town or the WWII Bombing of Darwin tour.

Day 3 -Thu 18 Jul 2024 Darwin - Kakadu

Travel to the amazing World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park to experience its stunning raw beauty first hand. Marvel at ancient Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie Rock, some of the oldest and most impressive Rock Art. Visit Bowali Visitors Centre for a greater understanding of the area before cruising on the Yellow Water Billabong, spotting crocodiles and birdlife. Stay overnight in Kakadu.

Day 4 - Fri, 19 Jul 2024 - Kakadu - Darwin

Optional flight - Take an optional flight over Kakadu National Park for a bird’s-eye view of the wetlands and rocky terrain (at additional cost, please book prior to departure). Return to Darwin this morning and enjoy an afternoon at leisure

Day 5 - Sat 20 Jul 2024 - Ghan Expedition

Your journey begins with a morning departure from Darwin. Settle into your private cabin, before a delightful regionally-inspired lunch, accompanied by a selection of all-inclusive wines and beverages. Arrive early afternoon at the Top End township of Katherine. Choose between a relaxing cruise through Nitmiluk Gorge’s ancient natural wonders and exploring the region’s rich Indigenous culture, or taking a glimpse into the lives of those who call the outback home, with a fascinating day of discovery on a huge cattle station. Enjoy dinner as the sun sets over the outback, then back in your cabin you’ll find your bed turned down. Fall asleep as the train rolls soothingly onwards.

Day 6 - Sun 21 Jul 2024 - Ghan Expedition

After your first night on The Ghan, you’ll be greeted by a morning view of the spectacular Red Centre. A full day of excursions awaits you in the outback town of Alice Springs. An optional upgrade is a scenic flight to Uluru, returning in time to meet the rest of your fellow guests at a spectacular barbecue dinner under a million stars at the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station.

Day 7 - Mon 22 Jul 2024 - Ghan Expedition

From your morning stop at the outback outpost of Manguri, you’ll venture into the weird and wonderful opal mining township of Coober Pedy, where more than half of the residents live underground. Here, you’ll enjoy a day of discovery, and a gourmet lunch in the most unique of locations: underground. Dinner is served back on the train where you can enjoy a nightcap as your journey continues.

Day 8 - Tue 23 Jul 2024 - Adelaide

From your cabin window this morning, you’ll see a dramatic change in landscape, as the rich ochre tones of the outback make way for the green fields of South Australia. Enjoy a leisurely brunch as you pass through the majestic Flinders Ranges and prepare for your mid-morning arrival into Adelaide, completing one of the world’s great travel experiences. You will then be transferred to your hotel, your home for the next three nights. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant.

Day 9 - Wed 24 Jul 2024 - Barossa Valley

Today travel to one of Australia’s oldest wine producing regions, Barossa Valley. Spend the day discovering the Barossa Valley. Visit Maggie Beer’s Farm shop for a cooking demonstration, before the chance to try wine at Seppeltsfield. Take a vineyard tour of the award-winning Jacob’s Creek Winery before returning to Adelaide.

Day 10 - Thu 25 Jul 2024 - Adelaide

Freechoice: Today, discover the history and culture of Adelaide on a walking tour or taste your way through the Adelaide Central Markets. Alternatively, choose an Adelaide city sights tour, which includes a charming Torrens River cruise to explore Adelaide’s picturesque riverside or a visit to the Adelaide Zoo.

Day 11 - Fri 26 Jul 2024 - Adelaide

It’s time to say goodbye to your newfound friends and the delightful tastes of Outback Australia. The itinerary is a guide only and may be amended for operational reasons. As such Scenic cannot guarantee the tour will operate unaltered from the itinerary stated above. Please refer to our terms and conditions.

Accommodation Preferred: – Twin / Double / Single / Triple / Will Share – Passengers who are willing to share with other passengers. *Please Note: For all ‘Will Share’ Passengers we will endeavour to find another single traveller of the same gender with whom you can share a room. If we cannot find anyone for you to share with then SINGLE SUPPLEMENT WILL APPLY. The “Will Share” option will not be available after the Balance Date.

SCENIC: This tour is in conjunction with Scenic. Cardwell’s acts as an agent for Scenic.


INCLUSIONS:  Flights ex Melbourne, meals as per the brochure, Accommodation, Cardwell’s pickup and return, guided.   


TOUR LEADER: Tour leader will join you when you arrive in NT and leave when the tour finishes in SA.

(For Example: Albury, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Seymour, Bendigo, Finley, Kerang, Echuca, Deniliquin, Yarrawonga, Corowa, and towns within these areas). For Passenger’s who live outside these areas Cardwell’s provide Overnight accommodation in Numurkah and ‘Free lock up car storage’ at our Numurkah depot.


CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancel before balance due date, loss of deposit. Cancel after balance due date no refund.


FARES & ITINERARIES: CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL costs published & outlined in the brochure are frozen, errors or printing mistakes are subject to correction. However, policy changes by rail/air/sea operators or changes in Government duties or taxes are outside the control of CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL. Air fares and other discount travel arrangements may be subject to availability of seats/berths, as determined by transport companies. No increases apply once full fare is paid. The Tour duration includes the day of departure and the day of return. Fares shown make no allowance for extra accommodation or transfers necessitated by en-route stop-overs caused by rail/air/boat schedules, strikes or other reasons. Your Travel Agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf. Receipt of deposits and also subsequent payments by the travel agent does not constitute receipts of those monies by us. There is no liability on our part in respect of any monies paid to your Travel Agent unless and until we notify you (by way of Booking Confirmation Advice or Payment Receipt Advice) that monies have been received by us. CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL reserves the right to cancel any ticket or booking or to refuse to carry any passenger where payment has not been received by CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL and has the right to accept wait listed passengers in place of those failing to finalise within the prescribed time.


ELIGIBILITY: No passenger will be permitted to embark or continue on the tour while their mental or physical condition is, in the opinion of CARDWELLS’ COACH TRAVEL, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or they become objectionable to other passengers. However, any person/s who cannot travel independently or needs special assistance must be accompanied by a companion.


ITINERARY CHANGES: Itineraries, accommodation, tours and cruises are subject to alteration with or without notice and intended as a guide only. Alterations may come about due to road or weather conditions, strikes, non-performance by a supplier or any other reasons CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL act in your best interest in any such changes.


FUEL SURCHARGE: Due to the instability of world oil prices, in the event that fuel reaches $2.00/litre a Fuel Surcharge of $5/person per day will apply to the final payment. Subject to change.


SEAT CHANGES: A seat rotation system everyday ensures that all passengers have the opportunity to enjoy similar seating arrangements.


LUGGAGE: One medium suitcase per person, not exceeding 20kg (42lbs) and one carry bag for inside the coach. Over limit luggage cannot be carried.


TRAVEL INSURANCE: We can arrange for passengers to take out travel insurance to cover any unforseen circumstances which may arise (including cancellation fees, medical & curtailment expenses, loss of luggage, early departure from tour due to death or illness etc.) Ask your travel agent for details at time of booking.


FORCE MAJEURE: If by any means of any event of force majeure (which shall include terrorism, pandemic or any cause or event outside our control) we shall be delayed in or prevented from performing our obligations, then such delay or non-performance shall not be deemed a breach or entitle a damages claim. Our obligations shall be suspended whilst such event of force majeure continues. New Terms and Conditions Apply.
