Dive into a 9-day exploration of the Great Australian Bight and the Eyre Peninsula, starting on the 19th of September 2024. This journey is a blend of natural beauty, history, and the unique allure of South Australia’s lesser-known regions.

This tour promises an intimate and unforgettable experience through some of South Australia’s most stunning landscapes and hidden gems, from coastal wonders to inland treasures.


Day 1 – Thursday 19th Sept 2024 -Swan Hill -Berri

Welcome aboard our tour of the Great Australian Bight Tour, the Forgotten Corner of South Australia. We enjoy morning tea at Echuca and lunch at The Commercial Hotel, Swan Hill. We travel through the Mallee Region and Hattah National Park to Red Cliffs. After our afternoon tea we continue along the Sturt Highway, crossing the South Australian border, continue to Berri where we settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Berri Motel.

Day 2 – Friday 20th - Berri – Kadina

This morning after a hearty breakfast we visit a special place for Jimmy James. Jimmy James was a famous aboriginal tracker who worked with South Australia Police on many investigations, murders, robberies and disappearances in the 1960’s. We enjoy views across the mighty Murray River as we make our way to the Bella Lavender Farm for a talk/tour and morning tea. Then Travel through Eudunda, Saddleworth and Auburn. We explore the mining towns of Wallaroo and Moonta, rich in Cornish history. We relax for our Overnight Stay at the Kadina Gateway Motor Inn.

Day 3 – Saturday 21st - Kadina – Port Lincoln

This morning, we take the ferry from Wallaroo to Lucky Bay where we visit Turner Aqua oysters with the chance to sample an oyster. We continue south along the Lincoln Highway to Port Lincoln, where we settle in for the Next Two Nights at the Port Lincoln Hotel.

Day 4 – Sunday 22nd -Discover Port Lincoln

After breakfast this morning we head south for one of the most spectacular coastal drives – Whalers Way. Whalers Way offers sensational coastal views from the very tip of the Peninsula. We head into town for a delicious lunch. After lunch we do a city highlights tour before embarking on an Aquaculture Bay Cruise which includes visiting a range of farms such as Kingfish and Abalone farms. We return to our motel, with time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 5 – Monday 23rd - West Coast – Murphy’s Haystacks

Today after a hearty breakfast we make our way to Coffin Bay, located on the shores of one of the most beautiful estuaries in Australia, surrounded by National Parks. We enjoy a brief stop for morning tea, before continuing along the Flinders Highway to Ellison. We have a chance to admire this stunning area, particularly the appropriately named Great Ocean View, a section of cliff top roadway with some breathtaking views of the Great Australian Bight and Waterloo Bay. We stop at the geological wonder, Murphy’s Haystacks a great photo opportunity. This afternoon we make our way to Streaky Bay, where we settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Streaky Bay Community Hotel.

Day 6 – Tuesday 24th - Streaky Bay – Great Australian Bight

This morning, we visit Point Labatt, an isolated and beautiful place, home to a colony of Australian Sea Lions. From the lookout on top of the cliffs we can view the seals basking in the sun on the rocks below. The views along the coast and out into the Great Australian Bight are sensational. From Point Labatt we return to the Flinders Highway and then travel inland to Minnipa. We visit nearby Pildappa Rock, a large piece of granite that has been exposed over time by erosion. Pildappa Rock features long wave formations rivalling those of Western Australia’s Wave Rock. We farewell this remote, yet fascinating part of the Eyre Peninsula. This afternoon we travel via Kimba and Iron Knob to Port Augusta. We settle in for Two Nights at the Standpipe Golf Motor Inn, Port Augusta.

Day 7 – Wednesday 25th - Port Augusta - Whyalla - East Coast

This morning we head to the industrial city of Whyalla, the gateway to the Eyre Peninsula and visit Whyalla Visitor’s Information Centre where we have a guided tour of HMAS Whyalla, the largest land locked ship in Australia. We enjoy a tour of the town before we have a picnic lunch. This afternoon we return to Port Augusta with time to visit the Australia Arid Botanical Gardens. We return to the motel with time to relax before dinner.

Day 8 – Thursday 26th - Port Augusta – Mildura

This morning after breakfast we make our way through Crystal Brook to Burra for a tour of this historic township. The contrasting architecture reflecting Irish, English, Cornish and European influences is unique. From Burra we travel to Morgan, situated on the Murray River. Then we make our way to Mildura. We settle in for our Overnight Stay at the Best Western Chaffey Motor Inn, Mildura.

Day 9 – Friday 27th - Mildura – Home

Today we travel to Swan Hill for lunch and past the chain of lakes. Travel the Murray Valley Highway to Echuca where we enjoy afternoon tea with time to reflect on our tour having seen some wonderful sights of the Great Australian Bight, South Australia’s Hidden Secret on the Eyre Peninsula.

A deposit of $150.00 per person is required on booking to confirm your reservation.

Balance is due by 5th August ‘24. Full payment is required if booking after the above date.

Name Badges:-  Will have your Preferred First Name, & Town displayed.

Accommodation Preferred:-   Twin / Double / Single / Triple / Will Share – Passengers who are willing to share with other passengers (if we are unable to find someone to share with you then a Single Supplement will apply). *Please Note: For all ‘Will Share’ Passengers we will endeavour to find another single traveller of the same gender with whom you can share a room. In the event that either passenger finds they are not compatible they will each have to pay for a single room option, if available. Will Share option is not available after balance date.

FREE PASSENGER PICKUP & RETURN SERVICE: For the convenience of all our passengers CARDWELL’S COACH TRAVEL provide Free Passenger Pickup & Return Service from most major Towns in North, North-East, Central Victoria & Southern NSW.  (For Example:  Albury, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Seymour, Bendigo, Finley, Kerang, Echuca, Deniliquin, Yarrawonga, Corowa, and towns within these areas). For Passenger’s who live outside these areas Cardwell’s provide Overnight accommodation in Numurkah and ‘Free lock up car storage’ at our Numurkah depot.

CANCELLATION POLICY: To cover the costs involved the following cancellation fees apply.  Notice given before Balance Date or more $25 per person Administration Fee, and any monies spent on your behalf. On or after the Balance Date or once tour has departed No Refund will be given.

FARES & ITINERARIES: CARDWELL’S COACH TRAVEL costs published & outlined in the brochure are frozen, errors or printing mistakes are subject to correction. However, policy changes by rail/air/sea operators or changes in Government duties or taxes are outside the control of CARDWELL’S COACH TRAVEL. Air fares and other discount travel arrangements may be subject to availability of seats/berths, as determined by transport companies.  No increases apply once full fare is paid. The Tour duration includes the day of departure and the day of return. Fares shown make no allowance for extra accommodation or transfers necessitated by en-route stop-overs caused by rail/air/boat schedules, strikes or other reasons.   Your Travel Agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf.  Receipt of deposits and also subsequent payments by the travel agent does not constitute receipts of those monies by us.  There is no liability on our part in respect of any monies paid to your Travel Agent unless and until we notify you (by way of Booking Confirmation Advice or Payment Receipt Advice) that monies have been received by us.  CARDWELL’S COACH TRAVEL reserves the right to cancel any ticket or booking or to refuse to carry any passenger where payment has not been received by CARDWELL’S COACH TRAVEL and has the right to accept wait listed passengers in place of those failing to finalise within the prescribed time.

ELIGIBILITY: No passenger will be permitted to embark or continue on the tour while their mental or physical condition is, in the opinion of CARDWELLS’ COACH TRAVEL, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or they become objectionable to other passengers.  However, any person/s who cannot travel independently or needs special assistance must be accompanied by a companion.

ITINERARY CHANGES:   Itineraries, accommodation, tours and cruises are subject to alteration with or without notice and intended as a guide only.  Alterations may come about due to road or weather conditions, strikes, non-performance by a supplier or any other reasons CARDWELL’S COACH TRAVEL act in your best interest in any such changes.

FUEL SURCHARGE: Due to the instability of world oil prices, in the event that fuel reaches $2.00/litre a Fuel Surcharge of $5/person per day will apply to the final payment. Subject to change.

SEAT CHANGES: A seat rotation system everyday ensures that all passengers have the opportunity to enjoy similar seating arrangements.

LUGGAGE: One medium suitcase per person, not exceeding 20kg (42lbs) and one carry bag for inside the coach.  Over limit luggage cannot be carried.

TRAVEL INSURANCE: We can arrange for passengers to take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances which may arise (including cancellation fees, medical & curtailment expenses, loss of luggage, early departure from tour due to death or illness etc.)  Ask your travel agent for details at time of booking.

FORCE MAJEURE:  If by any means of any event of force majeure (which shall include terrorism, pandemic or any cause or event outside our control) we shall be delayed in or prevented from performing our obligations, then such delay or non-performance shall not be deemed a breach or entitle a damage claim. Our obligations shall be suspended whilst such event of forced majeure continues. New Terms and conditions will apply.
