Itinerary

Day 1 – Monday 10th March 2025 Rochester –Geelong – Great Ocean Road – Lorne

Welcome aboard for our exciting tour of the Great Ocean Road and the Shipwreck Coast, Warrnambool through to Mt Gambier and Sovereign Hill. Today we travel south, making our way to Geelong. Here we visit the fascinating National Wool Museum, an historical (1872) bluestone wool store where the story of Australia’s rich wool heritage is told from the sheep’s back to finished product. We enjoy a drive along Geelong beachfront and Botanical Gardens before grabbing lunch and visiting Cunningham Pier. After lunch we continue our travel on to Anglesea and along the scenic Great Ocean Road, renowned as being the most picturesque road in Australia, see the Memorial Gate, and “The Diggers” monument, a tribute to the 3000 returned soldiers who built the Great Ocean road. We spend the afternoon exploring the city of Lorne, before overnighting at Mantra Lorne.

Day 2 – Tuesday 11th March 2025 Otway Fly – Port Campbell – Warrnambool.

An exciting day and a real highlight as we make our way to the Otway Fly, a tree top walk which ascends through a magnificent stand at Myrtle Beach, Blackwood and Mountain Ash. We enjoy morning tea, with time to explore the Information Centre. We continue along the Great Ocean Road, this stretch of coastline makes compulsive viewing with plenty of chances for the avid photographer to take advantage of the dramatic coastal scenery. We visit some amazing rock formations including the “Twelve Apostles” – huge stone pillars looming out of the surf and the famous “Lochard Gorge”. You may wish to do an optional scenic helicopter flight over this amazing coastline. We then make our way to Port Campbell for our lunch break. After lunch visit the information centre and enjoy an audio visual on the past history before continuing along the shipwrecked coastline. We visit the Fallen Bridge and Bay of Islands as we continue to Warrnambool. We settle in for the next two nights at the Olde Maritime Motor Inn.

Day 4 – Thursday 13th March 2025 Warrnambool – Mt Gambier.

A Leisurely start as we discover Warrnambool and its combination of history and thriving progress on the shores of Lady Bay. We enjoy a town tour, taking in the panoramic views of Lady Bay and Lake Petrobe. See the Marble Marker that commemorates possible links with early Portuguese navigators, and visit the Flagstaff Maritime Museum, a unique 19th century village and the famous Loch Ard Peacock. We visit Tower Hill an extinct volcanic crater restored to pre – European Flora and Fauna. This evening we are transported to Flagstaff Hills Lighthouse and become part of the perilous voyage from England to Australia on board the sailing Clipper Loch Ard as we experience the Sound & Light show “Shipwreck”.

Day 5 – Friday 14th March 2025 Mount Gambier Discovery Day.

After our hearty breakfast we begin our Mt Gambier Discovery Day. Starting with a visit to the Lady Nelson Tourist Information, this includes a video and other interactive display about the history of Mount Gambier. We continue on with a scenic drive to the rim of the “Blue Lake” and tour around the rim of the crater. We then descend to the former historic pumping station for a guide tour. Lunch in Mount Gambier (own expense). After lunch travel to Nelson for an afternoon tea cruise on the Glenelg River. Returning to Mount Gambier we visit the Cave Garden – Which has been part of Mt Gambier’s Heritage since the early days. Visit the Umpherston Sinkhole returning to our motel with ample time to freshen up before dinner in the motel dining room.

Day 6 – Saturday 15th March 2025 Robe – Millicent

After breakfast we travel to Millicent National Trust Museum with its historical and Maritime displays restored horse drawn vehicles, implements and machinery. We continue to Robe – a former whaling station and enjoy a town tour with time to purchase lunch and some time to stroll among the shops. Continuing back to Mount Gambier – making a stop at the Tantanoola Caves. One of Australia’s prettiest caves and fairly accessible to groups. Arriving back in Mt Gambier with some free time before dinner.

Day 7 – Sunday 16th March 2025 Mount Gambier – Ballarat

Today we make our way to Ballarat, home of the famous tourist attraction Sovereign Hill. Spend the afternoon going back in time exploring the many exhibits. From candle making, mine tours, confectionary demonstrations. If you are up for it, give panning for gold a go. There is something that would fascinate all travellers. This evening our overnight accommodation is Mercure Ballarat.

Day 8 – Monday 17th March 2025 Ballarat – Home

After breakfast we will check out the Ballarat Wildlife Park, see the new Tiger Sanctuary along with many other Aussie favourites. Before heading home, we will finish exploring Ballarat before enjoying lunch at Craig’s Hotel. Enjoy a hearty meal, you may even like to try a wide variety of craft, international and local beers as well as a selection of wines and ciders. After lunch the tour sadly comes to an end, we will begin making our way back to your original locations.

FREE PASSENGER PICKUP & RETURN SERVICE: For the convenience of all our passengers CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL provide Free Passenger Pickup & Return Service from all major Towns in North, North-East, Central Victoria & Southern NSW.  (For Example:  Albury, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Seymour, Bendigo, Finley, Kerang, Echuca, Deniliquin, Yarrawonga, Corowa, and towns within these areas). For Passenger’s who live outside these areas Cardwell’s provide Overnight accommodation in Numurkah and ‘Free lock up car storage’ at our Numurkah depot.

CANCELLATION POLICY: To cover the costs involved the following cancellation fees apply.  Notice given prior to Balance Date or more $25 per person Administration Fee and monies that have been paid on your behalf will not be refunded. Notice given after the balance date or once tour has departed No Refund will be given.

FARES & ITINERARIES: CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL costs published & outlined in the brochure are frozen, errors or printing mistakes are subject to correction. However, policy changes by rail/air/sea operators or changes in Government duties or taxes are outside the control of CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL. Air fares and other discount travel arrangements may be subject to availability of seats/berths, as determined by transport companies.  No increases apply once full fare is paid. The Tour duration includes the day of departure and the day of return. Fares shown make no allowance for extra accommodation or transfers necessitated by en-route stop-overs caused by rail/air/boat schedules, strikes or other reasons. Your Travel Agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf.  Receipt of deposits and also subsequent payments by the travel agent does not constitute receipts of those monies by us.  There is no liability on our part in respect of any monies paid to your Travel Agent unless and until we notify you (by way of Booking Confirmation Advice or Payment Receipt Advice) that monies have been received by us.  CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL reserves the right to cancel any ticket or booking or to refuse to carry any passenger where payment has not been received by CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL and has the right to accept wait listed passengers in place of those failing to finalise within the prescribed time.

ELIGIBILITY: No passenger will be permitted to embark or continue on the tour while their mental or physical condition is, in the opinion of CARDWELLS’ COACH TRAVEL, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or they become objectionable to other passengers.  However, any person/s who cannot travel independently or needs special assistance must be accompanied by a companion.

ITINERARY CHANGES: Itineraries, accommodation, tours and cruises are subject to alteration with or without notice and intended as a guide only.  Alterations may come about due to road or weather conditions, strikes, non-performance by a supplier or any other reasons CARDWELL’S COACH & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL act in your best interest in any such changes.

FUEL SURCHARGE: Due to the instability of world oil prices, in the event that fuel reaches $2.00/litre a Fuel Surcharge of $5/person per day will apply to the final payment. Subject to change.

SEAT CHANGES: A seat rotation system everyday ensures that all passengers have the opportunity to enjoy similar seating arrangements.

LUGGAGE: One medium suitcase per person, not exceeding 20kg (42lbs) and one carry bag for inside the coach.  Over limit luggage cannot be carried.

TRAVEL INSURANCE: We can arrange for passengers to take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances which may arise (including cancellation fees, medical & curtailment expenses, loss of luggage, early departure from tour due to death or illness etc.)  Ask your travel agent for details at time of booking.

FORCE MAJEURE: If by any means of any event of force majeure (which shall include terrorism, pandemic or any cause or event outside our control) we shall be delayed in or prevented from performing our obligations, then such delay or non-performance shall not be deemed a breach or entitle a damages claim. Our obligations shall be suspended whilst such event of force majeure continues.
